Robert H. Rice, Core Leader
Daniel P.Y. Chang, Co-Core Leader

Specific Aims

The training component of the UC Davis Superfund Basic Research Program provides a framework for graduate and postgraduate education and training to further the goals of both graduate and postgraduate education at UC Davis and the NIEHS Superfund Hazardous Substances Research Program.  First, the didactic, knowledge based training of graduate students through the graduate group system provides a strong foundation in the environmental sciences.  Second, graduate and postdoctoral trainees are exposed to the interdisciplinary research in Superfund projects focused on integrated approaches to problem solving, both theoretic and practical.  Our core includes training enrichment for students and postdoctoral trainees in environmental health and science, ecology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, and analytical approaches to complex questions of societal importance.  This approach fosters a new generation of scientists, managers, and educators well prepared to address difficult and complex problems in the environmental health sciences who ultimately will be represented in the academic, regulatory, industrial, and policymaking communities.
